David Sandell
Associate Professor of Anthropology
Texas Christian University
David Sandell is a cultural anthropologist with expertise in the U.S. Southwest and Mexico. His ethnographic research with Mexican and Mexican-American people of faith has produced journal articles and a 2015 book entitled, Open Your Heart: Religion and Cultural Poetics of Greater Mexico. Since 2004, Dr. Sandell has conducted research in rural villages called “migrant communities” near the Mexican cities of Silao and León, Guanajuato. This work has yielded several journal articles that address U.S.-bound migration, including those in Ethos and Journal of American Folklore. At TCU, Dr. Sandell teaches courses on the themes of migration, development, and globalization.
