A letter from the Hispanic/Latino Summit Co-Chairs

¡Bienvenido! ¡Bienvenida!
Welcome to the 2008 Hispanic/Latino Summit. As part of the Fourth Annual Texas Diversity and Leadership Conference, we are proud to bring you this inaugural event to the beautiful city of Houston.

Hispanics/Latinos are the fastest-growing ethnic group in the United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Hispanics/Latinos constitute 15 percent of the nation’s total population. Texas is home to 8.4 million Hispanics/Latinos representing 36 percent of the state population and Houston has the third-largest Hispanic/Latino population in the country.

The Hispanic/Latino Summit will provide a forum to discuss challenges and opportunities facing the Latino community in Texas. It will focus on overarching issues such as immigration and economic opportunity, and more specific topics that relate to Hispanics/Latinos in the workplace.

We are inspired by the work of the Texas Diversity Council and its goal to promote diversity in the workplace and the community. We invite you to join us at this Inaugural Hispanic/Latino Summit as we engage in a constructive dialogue to continue to advance Hispanic/Latino voices in Texas.

Cordialmente,

Aracely García-Granados                                     Cecilia Orellana-Rojas, Ph.D.
